Settling In

Hugo has been with us for nearly three weeks now. His foot is long healed and he has enjoyed many lovely mornings enjoying the breeze in the grassy yard. That is definitely his favorite place to be so far... even though a stampede of puppies are now intermittently disturbing his reverie.

He still isn't what you would call "comfortable". He looks imploringly at us, but we don't understand what he is trying to tell us. He doesn't seek out our attention-- he mostly seeks comfortable repose inside and out. We plan to take him for a vet exam this week to make sure that he is not hurting. His knee should be fine now, and we can't quite put our finger on what it is that seems uncomfortable about him, but we want to be sure we aren't missing anything.

And we have caught him actually engaging the puppies in play on more than one occasion recently. And he was playing with Ben lately too! So it could just be that he is taking his time, taking it all in, and on his way out of his shell...

Welcome, Hugo!

We had actually heard about Hugo for a while before we met him. People who knew about our love for past foster dog Trixie forwarded us his info while he was with another group, and we checked in on him online from time-to-time. Eventually his rescuers asked our group to take him in... and just like destiny, one night he needed us.

Poor little Hugo had been stung by a scorpion and needed to go to the emergency animal hospital. I went to get him and brought him home to our Foster Home for more TLC. He is honestly in kind of skittish shape today... in pain, frightened, and a bit freaked out by the move. And he needed a bath right off the bat, which he didn't make him feel any more comfortable! But we know there is great potential for this little one, and we are excited to have a chance to help him.
